Guide and FAQ

About e& Egypt (Etisalat) home internet

Home internet in Egypt runs over the landline network, so e& Egypt (Etisalat) home service can be affected by the condition of the line and street cabinet in your area. If your speed is weak, test by cable first to see whether the problem is the line itself or your Wi‑Fi.

Check the splitter

If your landline phone and internet share the same line, a splitter separates the two signals. A missing, loose or damaged splitter adds noise to the line, which lowers your speed and causes the connection to drop when the phone rings. Make sure every phone socket in use has a splitter, and that the router is plugged into its DSL port.

Turn off your VPN before testing

A VPN sends your traffic through a distant server, so it lowers your download speed and raises your ping. If you use one on your phone or computer, turn it off before the test to measure your e& line itself.

Before you contact e&

Check your remaining quota first, then test by cable three times at different times of day and keep a screenshot of each result. Since e& home internet also runs over the WE landline network, cable and cabinet faults may need a repair visit from WE.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my e& Egypt (Etisalat) data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

Does a VPN affect my speed test result?

Yes. A VPN usually lowers download speed and raises ping, because your data travels through an extra server. Turn it off to measure your line.

Do I need a splitter?

Yes, if a landline phone shares the same line. Without it, the phone signal interferes with the internet and slows it down.
