Guide and FAQ

About home internet in Egypt

Egypt's landline network belongs to Telecom Egypt (WE), and every home internet provider delivers its service over it. That's why cable and street-cabinet faults in your area can affect your line whichever company you use. If your speed is weak, test by cable first to see whether the problem is the line itself or your Wi‑Fi.

ADSL, VDSL or fiber?

Your line type sets a ceiling before your plan does. ADSL lines rarely go above 24 Mbps whatever plan you're on. VDSL reaches much higher speeds when the street cabinet is close. Fiber (FTTH) is available only in certain new areas and cities. To see what your line can really carry, open your router's settings page and look for "Max Rate" or "Attainable Rate". If that number is below your plan speed, the problem is the line, not your device.

When your quota runs out

WE home plans come with a monthly usage limit. If you use it up before renewal, your speed drops sharply or the connection stops until you renew or add more data. Before blaming the line, check your remaining quota in the My WE app.

Before you call 111

Test three times at different times of day with your device connected to the router by cable, and note the Max Rate from your router's page. If your results are below your plan and the Max Rate is low, ask customer service to check your line and cabinet. If the Max Rate looks fine and only your Wi‑Fi results are weak, the fix is usually moving or replacing the router.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

How long does a 110 GB game like GTA V take to download?

200 Mbps	1 hr 13 min
500 Mbps	29 min

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my WE data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

Why is WE slower at night?

Most subscribers are online during evening peak hours, and your street cabinet is shared by the homes around you. Test in the morning and at night and compare the two results.

How do I find my line's maximum speed?

Open your router's settings page and look for Max Rate or Attainable Rate. That's the most your line can carry right now, whatever your plan says.
