Guide and FAQ

Is your device the bottleneck?

On fast STC fiber plans, the line is often faster than the device you test with. Older phones and laptops on Wi‑Fi 4 or Wi‑Fi 5 may not reach several hundred megabits, even next to the router. If your result stops at the same number on every test, try a newer device or a computer connected by cable to see the full speed of your line.

Fiber or a 5G router?

STC home internet reaches you either over fiber or through a 5G router that uses the mobile network. Fiber gives steady results at any hour. A 5G router depends on signal and on how busy the nearest tower is, so its results change through the day. If you use one, place it high and near a window facing the street.

Before you call 900

Restart the router, then test three times by cable at different times of day and keep a screenshot of each result. If the cable results are close to your plan speed, the problem is your Wi‑Fi or device, not the STC line.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

How long does a 110 GB game like GTA V take to download?

Downloading 110 GB by line speed
Download speed	Approximate time
10 Mbps	1 day
30 Mbps	8 hr 9 min
50 Mbps	4 hr 53 min
100 Mbps	2 hr 27 min
200 Mbps	1 hr 13 min
500 Mbps	29 min

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my STC data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

Why does my STC fiber test lower on my phone than on my computer?

Your phone's Wi‑Fi chip and its distance from the router often limit the speed before the line does. A computer connected by cable shows the line's real speed.

Is a 5G home router as fast as fiber?

It can be when the signal is strong, but its speed changes with your location and how busy the tower is. Fiber stays more consistent, especially in the evening.
